SPLAT == Small Press Local Artists Together.

We are a collective of local artists working in DIY print media. This includes zines, printmaking, screenprinting--pretty much anything involving reproduceable media.

Our focus is more on community rather than commerce. That's why we're a collective. Success will come from shared effort--without exploitation. We are a resource not only for ourselves, but for the larger community as well. Our intent is to establish partnerships with outreach and mutual aid organizations to help them achieve their goals more effectively. Organizations thrive, our artists gain exposure, and everyone benefits. Community at work.

We are currently navigating the legal and regulatory hurdles to be registered independently as an LCA cooperative, but in the meantime we're operating as a subsidiary of Blue Door Theatre, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Our organization consists of a group of collaborators dedicated to the operation and administration of Splat and a stable of consigned artists who sell their work in the shop. Consigned artists aren't necessarily collaborators, but they often are. Let's meet some of them...

THE COLLABORATORS.

Nanette Cloud (she/her/xe/xem) - Ringleader. Nanette Cloud makes comics and zines about strange happenings and odd folk. Xe think clowns are really cool. As Founding Ringleader of Splat Nanette has encouraged a lot of people to help her make a nice place for all the weirdos in town. She hopes to one day metamorphasize from a simple clowning into a fully grown jester. She is also a Splat consigned artist.

Alana Shepherd (she/her) - Director of Operations. Alana is best known for her work as a lighting designer for theatre and architecture. She has experience managing community and nonprofit organizations as well-having founded a national LGBTQ advocacy organization for the lighting industry, and having served as the managing|artistic director for Stage Left Theater. She's looking forward to translating that knowledge into unmitigated success for Splat.

Basil Zero (she/her/zi/zir) - Administrative Wizard. Basil is an admin wizard born of swamp gas, starlight and a decade of kitchen work. She's worked dozens of odd jobs and now she's excited to do something meaningful for and with her community of fellow weirdos. Zi is also a Splat consigned artist as part of Bones & Buggz.

Ryan Hamm (they/them) - Director of Branding. Ryan is a queer artist from CDA that is fascinated by humans. Ryan's inspiration for art, and the way that they express themselves, is a response to the complexities of human connection to oneself and others. They also really like insects.

Oh, and I guess they also were trained in classical art for 11 years, from ages 7-18, until they realized that realism felt like AI's predecessor. Then upon high school graduation and realizing that they forgot to apply for college, on a predictably chaotic impulse Ryan moved to LA where they received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Graphic Design. While in college, Ryan worked for Vans as a production artist for a year and some change until they realized that in most graphic design jobs you were, at large, just a cog in the consumerism machine (at least in the well-paying jobs that give you basic humans rights like health insurance and PTO and what not). But they decided to continue with their degree. For the bit. I suppose.

Since then, Ryan has moved back to Spokane and has worked at a job that gives enough money, free time, and benefits to meet basic needs and allow for them to work on art as a side gig.

Aside from taking on odd art-related jobs, Ryan has been a part of a handful of art markets between Washington and Idaho, and with that has gotten the pleasure of getting closer with the community of Spokane - especially the queer and art communities.

With being a part of Splat, Ryan hopes to continue to nurture and enrich that connection to local community; to continue to witness everything wonderful Spokane's queers and artists (and queer artists) make with their art and their lives. They are also a Splat consigned artist as part of Bones & Buggz.

K.C. Anderson (he/him) - Director of Accounting. K.C. supports SPLAT with finance and accounting, bringing over 15 years of experience and an abiding, unironic love of spreadsheets. By day (and night) he is studying to become a mental health counselor and enjoys helping the behind-the-scenes systems work in service of people. He is excited to bring his perspective to SPLAT.

THE CONSIGNED ARTISTS.

Kiara Lime (she/her) - Kiara Lime is a Filipino-American illustrator and comic artist based out of Spokane, WA. Shaped by fine art and illustration studies, her work centers around emotional characters, sentimental storytelling, and exploring Asian-American and queer identities.

Bones & Buggz - Bones & Buggz is a queer art duo who makes an assortment of art from natural, often discarded and disregarded, materials. We like to describe our oddities as trash turned into treasure.

Ashlyn Wiker (she/her) - Ashlyn is a local photographer who does work for local theaters and nonprofits, but specializes in street photography and candid shots. You may have seen her on stage at Blue Door performing stand up comedy.

Soft Sea Studio - Hello! I am Soft Sea Studio! I'm a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on ceramic arts and illustration. All my work is highly process-based and serves as a space for me to explore kitsch, cuteness, gender, and the deep meaning in the process of human creation. In a world where human touch is not always present in art, I hope to bring work that is full of my personal touch.

Kokonana - Kokonana is a character artist blending playful curiosity with a dusting of darkness. Inspired by imagination and emotion, her work explores creatures and tenderly uncanny worlds that live between cute and unsettling.

Mallory Battista (she/her) - Mallory is a Spokane artist, public sculptor, muralist, blacksmith, and co-editor of the free comics quarterly Spokane Sequential. Her first job out of school was for a local print shop, and she still has a deep love of print and design.

Michael Stearns (he/him) - Michael Stearns is a comic artist, indie game developer, and graphic design-ish kind of guy living in Spokane. He's currently the editor-in-chief of Spokane Sequential!

They love being an imaginative, curious and creative being.

Wallace Blair (he/they) - Yooo, I'm Wally. A perpetually tired lil queer dude who sometimes draws. I enjoy making queer and kink focused art and creating goofy lil guys.

Ellipsis (art/arts) - That is about all art knows in this world. Using inks on paper, or messing about with sound. If one must reach Ellipsis, art can be contacted at EKarabaraart@gmail.com

Walt Carlson (he/him) - Author, illustrator, and occasional designer of miscellaneous items and goods in Spokane. You can find his work at waltcarlson.net, on Instagram at 4jackalopes, and around town.
